Sebulba has arrived to the Den

Few positive things can be said about the first episode of Star Wars. Is unanimous that it is the worst movie of the saga and, in my opinion, only 2 things are safe in the movie. The first is Darth Maul, for me one of the best Sith to appear in the movies. He can really fight and has the coolest light saber ever. The second thing is podracers, not because of the context they appear in the movie, but because the concept of it.

One of the champions of those races is Sebulba, a Dug from the planet Malastare. A champion hated by all because of his bully attitude.

The LEGO minifigure of Sebulba arrives for the first time in 1999, completly grey and without any print. It made part of the set
7171 Mos Espa Podrace which was one of the first Star Wars LEGO sets in a time were minifigures were all yellow.

The redesign happened about 12 years after, in 2011 with the set 7962 Anakin Skywalker and Sebulba’s Podracers and in 2012 with set 9675 Sebulba’s Podracer & Tatooine. While the first set had 5 minifigures and 2 big podracers, the second was part of the Star Wars Planets edition and only had a minifigure, a planet and a small version of Sebulba’s podracer.

This figure, compared with its original version, has great improvments. Better detail, color and moveable arms. Also, because its shape is unique, LEGO had to make a specific mold for it.

Althouth is not a mitical minifigure, is an important character in episode 1 history. It’s quite hard to put it standing alone without a baseplate. To reach the equilibrium, the figure has to be quite high, reason why I had to take the picture using a baseplate. Althouth it’s not perfect, it’s a good addition to my episode 1 collection.
